The 2013 La Lapine is one of the most celebrated wines ever produced at Foxes Island, released exclusively as a library-only Icon wine and presented in its distinguished original black label. Awarded Double Gold at the Six Nations Wine Challenge—an accolade reserved for the finest wines across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Canada, Chile, and the USA—this vintage stands among the highest achievements for a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
Crafted only in seasons of exceptional harmony between site and climate, La Lapine represents the pinnacle of elegance, depth, and age-worthy structure. The wine is produced from a precise selection of the finest Sauvignon Blanc vines on the Belsham Awatere Estate, hand-picked and transported in small bins to preserve perfect fruit condition. Fermented with indigenous yeast in French oak barrels for ten months, the wine gains richness and texture while retaining purity and finesse. It is then cellar-aged for years before release, emerging with remarkable sophistication.
The 2013 vintage opens with an intense and mysterious bouquet of wild flowers, citrus oil, peach blossom, red apple, and subtle dried tropical fruit, layered with mineral spice and a gentle waxy, toasty nuance. On the palate, it is vibrant and beautifully poised, with electric acidity, silky texture, and seamless integration—finishing long, detailed, and luminous.
“There are many excellent alternative-style Sauvignon Blancs; La Lapine is the best of them all.” — Sam Kim
