A rare and very limited release, the Foxes Island Wines 2005 Estate Riesling made by winemaker John Belsham from his Awatere Estate in Marlborough, New Zealand.
Library Tasting Note
The 2005 Riesling has continued to develop beautifully since its first release in 2007. The primary fruit flavours have become more secondary as the wine has developed layers of complexity from bottle aging. The fresh, crunchy citrus flavours that were present in its youth, have become softer, deeper and more sensual. Flavours of ripe nectarine, and warm citrus mingle with toasty, flinty elements that are textural, fine, and a sensory delight.
On Release Tasting Note
The 2005 Estate Riesling exhibits delicate floral notes of white peach and jasmine. The palate is supple and flinty with lovely tension between fruit ripeness, acidity, and residual sugar. The wine finishes fresh. Its structure indicates great potential to age.
